The U15s travelled to Colchester to take on a formidable side in a thrilling match that ended in the narrowest of defeats, 31-29. With the lead changing hands four times in the final ten minutes, the result could easily have gone either way.

Ely Tigers got off to a flying start, racing into a 12-0 lead within the first ten minutes thanks to some sharp attacking play and solid teamwork. However, Colchester soon found their rhythm, capitalising on their physical centre partnership and strong ruck work to claw their way back into the game. A stunned Ely side saw their early lead overturned, heading into the break trailing 21-12.

The second half began with renewed energy from the Tigers, who quickly scored two well-worked tries to reclaim the lead at 24-21. The momentum swung back and forth, with both sides playing high-quality rugby and showing impressive determination.

With time ticking down, the lead changed hands multiple times. Just as Ely looked to be mounting a final, potentially match-winning attack inside the opposition 22, a ruck infringement brought the game to a dramatic end.

Despite the narrow loss, the performance was outstanding. The boys showed resilience, skill, and heart throughout and certainly left an impression, with the Colchester Head Coach already keen to arrange a rematch later in the season.

This was a fantastic learning experience for the squad, who continue to grow and improve with each challenge. The desire within the team is clear, and games like this are exactly what’s needed to push them to the next level.
