Today, the Tigers faced Shelford for the second time this month. Shelford graciously stepped in after Bedford Blues had to cancel last minute, and the team enjoyed an excellent morning of rugby. As always, the Tigers' game is built on a foundation of tough, physical defense, and today was no exception. The early exchanges were evenly matched, with both teams controlling possession, but the Tigers capitalized on their chances, putting pressure on Shelford and forcing mistakes. It didn’t take long for Ely to open the scoring, and from there, the team played some exceptional rugby. The defense at the breakdown and the gain line gave the 9 and 10 the platform to play on the front foot throughout, making the most of every opportunity.
The game showcased a brilliant combination of powerful running from the forwards and skillful attacking play from the backs. The boys were relentless with the ball and went into halftime with a dominant 31-0 lead.
The second half continued in much the same manner. Despite numerous changes and a strong fightback from Shelford, the Tigers’ physicality and pace never wavered. Even with the scoreline ticking up, the boys never let their guard down. What truly defined this team came in the final minute: despite a commanding lead, they defended their try line with all their might, refusing to allow Shelford a consolation try.
With just one loss all season, the boys are in outstanding form, playing rugby well beyond their age group. We are incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved this season and excited for the bright future ahead.
