Today, Ely Tigers faced their local rivals in what is always an intense and hard-fought match. With a few players ruled out due to injury, Ely relied heavily on their squad depth.
Despite blustery and cold conditions, Ely came out strong, taking the game to St Ives and using their powerful forwards to seize control. St Ives brought their trademark physicality early on, and while Ely took some heavy hits, they refused to back down. Their patience and resilience paid off with our first try, quickly followed by a second to establish a 12-0 lead. Though the score didn’t increase, Ely remained dominant in the first half, finishing with a 12-0 advantage as their try line stayed largely untroubled.
In the second half, Ely took charge, extending their lead to 29-0. The defensive effort was nothing short of phenomenal, gradually breaking St Ives' spirit. The backs capitalized, running in some fantastic tries. Though St Ives managed a consolation try, Ely responded instantly and comfortably secured the win.
Today’s performance was a true testament to how far the team has come this season. The boys earned a well-deserved round of applause from the spectators, who could see just how much it meant to the team to represent Ely Tigers, and the extraordinary effort they put in.
