Ely Tigers are saddened to learn of the passing of former player and member Patrick Fitzgerald earlier this month.
Described here by David ‘Taff’ Lloyd: “Pat was a silky smooth full-back during our great Colts years and joined the back line at a time when it was still rare. He was a class act. Pat was the son of our youth section founder Dr Rex Fitzgerald and he had an RAF Hospital type upbringing. I'd met Pat exactly a month to the day before his death at the Ely Beer Festival like we did each year and we always caught up and had a great chat! He never spoke much above a whisper!
Each day Pat visited the Swimming Baths and did 4km in lengths of the pool and I believe Pat is the first of my era to pass away. A softly spoken man who never had a bad word and provided and cared for a lovely family!”
In more recent years Pat was a frequent attendee of the Walking and Touch rugby sessions at the club and was a positive influence on the sessions and a pleasure to chat to.
Our condolences go to Pat’s family and friends.
